Agreed. I disapprove of bullying but it’s part of growing up. Verbal abuse and light physical nonsense is part of being a kid, as long as it’s not physical assault. We called each other every type of homosexual name out there before I even understood their definitions. One of my track teammates always called me a “pencil-neck geek.” One kid threw snowballs at my friend and me at the school bus stop. One tough kid bumped into me in the Middle school hallway. I said, “watch it!” He tackled me, punched my face, and cut his fist on my braces. Yeah, I got the worst of it but I stood up for myself and he never bumped into me again. On the middle school bus, my friends were insulting kids. I wanted to feel cool with them so I called a girl “iguana face.” Five years later, we were at a New Years Eve party. She walked up to me and asked if I remembered calling her an “iguana face” back in middle school. I apologized and admitted I was a jerk for saying that. Sometimes it takes awhile to grow up.
