  1. I was an active Trade Unionist in 1999. I told my Brothers that a minimum wage might provide a reasonable starting wage but would inevitably lead to skilled and specialist workers being paid the same amount as the unskilled, depressing overall incomes and impacting on both society and the economy. It was the damn obvious elephant in the detail. Fast forward twenty years: a very Left colleague finally admitted that I had been correct. For good measure, he also admitted that my warnings about Tony Blair had been spot on.
