The nearby Labour-run council slapped an order on a pair of large semis so a road could be put through to a new housing development. The owners lost an appeal (‘natch), and the houses were appropriated for about 2/3rds of the market value. Fast forward six months and the developers were given access to the site via a nearby main road. Long story short, a councillor bought one and his daughter the other for a complete steal, then sold the still-empty properties on for a substantial profit.

No dancing, no singing, no make-up for women, short haircuts, everyone wearing strictly mandated black and white clothing, no religious celebration of Christmas, Easter, Whitsun etc and no mince pies on pain of imprisonment. His son was supposed to take over from him, but that was thankfully stopped by the Restoration. Crowds cheered at his post-mortem trial, execution, and head-on-a-spike event.

  43. Saw a farmer claiming that, once the cows start on the food additive, there’s no going back. It’s going to cost a lot of money, there might be a risk to the cows and their future calves, and it might not be possible to stop feeding the additive without causing unnecessary harm. I thought live testing was a lot more stringent and that the product(s) of such testing were not put into the food chain until proven 100% safe. Silly me…
