  1. My bus route to work takes me through a council estate. It’s been fascinating to watch the change in demographic joining me each morning or strolling through the streets. Over the last five years I’ve experienced Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and the Ivory Coast (they spoke French). Now, it’s Nigerians and, possibly, Somalians.

  2. My father bought our house, built 1925, and put money into modernising it, a little something overlooked by the council. Double glazing, central heating, new wiring, a new roof, an inside toilet… As I recall, the money raised by selling off old council housing was supposed to go towards new council housing but this never happened, not where I used to live. Btw, the council was and is Labour.
