  1. That’s already happening: it’s called a compulsory purchase order. The nearby Labour-run council slapped an order on a pair of large semis so a road could be put through to a new housing development. The owners lost an appeal (‘natch), and the houses were appropriated for about 2/3rds of the market value. Fast forward six months and the developers were given access to the site via a nearby main road. Long story short, a councillor bought one and his daughter the other for a complete steal, then sold the still-empty properties on for a substantial profit.
