@Belerez you have your take on the story and characters - we have ours. I get that, but methinks you protest too much. Go away, now.

@matthewronsson actually, Lord Dunsany’s ‘The King of Elfland’s Daughter’ that is still considered the finest fantasy novel of all time. I’m an English Lit & Lang graduate with interest in the Old and Middle English periods so, for me, Tolkien is far, far more than merely a fantasy writer and LoTRs is more than a fantasy. I loathe RoP because - well - it’s shallower than a half-dried up puddle.

@louiethepitt it’s not an adaptation. Amazon’s banner clearly states that it’s based on the works of JRR. Which made me smile. I am looking forwards to them including snippets from his glorious translations of Beowulf, The Pearl and Sir Orfeo.

@aaronjustice9020 I’ve never played RE or followed the lore, but I know you’re going tell me it a s**tshow. Expectations subverted and fans declared racist yet?

When Pharazon forced Tar-Miriel, the legal heir, to marry him so he could seize the throne, he broke the law as they were cousins. Poor Tar-Miriel was lost in the wave that crashed over Numenor, victim of a sin for which she wasn’t responsible.

@TheMountainBeyondTheWoods dismantling a people's past, their history and their mythology, is a mechanism of conquest or tyranny.

@LaxyDrey oh, they'll flip out over anything... that's histronic personality disorder for you.

@kimberlyoldschool oh, yes, I remember that! The big shoulder-pads, the hard drinking and the sheer f*ing hubris.

Funny how the light up ahead turns out to be an oncoming train, though.

Still sad that Amazon was too stupid to see the potential mileage in Numenor’s dealings with Harad and Rhun, which left those peoples open to Sauron’s exploitation and corruption. But, since the writers and producers have never read LoTRs, The Silmarillion and The Lost Tales…

It’s just the title and a few character names they want. Flying under false colours, it was called back in the days of the tall ships.
