  2. Ethel was probably terrified. You have no idea how an abusive man can effect control over his victim, even to the point where she believes escape is impossible and accepts her fate, and he could certainly make veiled, if not direct, threats.

  3. The Marie Celeste’s sunken lifeboat was found early 2025, with several bodies aboard, including a woman and child. Reports stated that the ship was carrying industrial alcohol and made reference to light burn marks indicating that vapour from a leak probably built up to explosive level. The captain had evacuated via lifeboat, damaged as it was by the soft blast, as he feared a second, more deadly event. Unfortunately, heavy seas separated the lifeboat from the ship, and all lives were lost. It’s posited that the missing men might’ve tried to swim back to the ship, or perhaps their bodies were simply washed away when the lifeboat sank. A prosaic end to a tale of mystery.
