I knew about this illness and was impressed that Gaiman had done his homework. My maternal grandfather’s 1928 death certificate states ‘meningitis’, but he may well have suffered from the hyperkinetic form as my mother, then only four, could clearly recall the horror of seeing him jerking and making odd noises before he was removed to hospital.

Labour councillors running cover-ups - Labour MPs pulling the teeth of inquiries - Labour-led DEI’d police force. Tories on back foot every single time (and too scared to be called out as ists or phobes).. Any other questions?

@Awsimilate a workmate of mine was traumatised by her father’s death. The hospital doctor refused pain meds on the grounds that they only offered brief relief, and so her father screamed for two days, clutching his wife’s hand while she begged for something - anything - to ease his agony. It was, my colleague said, a relief when he collapsed into a coma and slipped away a day later. I’ve stood beside five deathbeds now; until you’ve stood beside just one you’ll never understand.

The Browning poem is my favourite version. That refers to the children being lured off or captured (trammeled) to live in Transylvania.

I would like to draw people’s attention to the fact that, in order to reduce the Surplus Population, Thomas Robert Malthus (in 1798) suggested letting disease run rampant untreated alongside other measures such as war and continually rising food costs. So, the most recent iteration of the anti-vaxxers might be a tad more sinister than you first imagined.

Been there and got diagnosed as having Alzheimer’s by my now ex. Luckily, I’m a logician and, once I saw a pattern, did some research, finding the term gaslighting. After that, he had some spectacular rows whenever I refused to accept his version of reality; I say “he” because he went incandescent and argued with himself. Anyway, every abuser uses the same playbook. I’d recommend everyone else reads “Why Does He Do That” by Lundy Bancroft.

@chrisgoad1935 I guess it is a joke until you've been in this situation.

Through my job, I met a man who believed chairs were following him, because he found chairs wherever he went. Wouldn’t sit down; couldn’t use public transport or get in a car. He was sectioned and received long term treatment, but he never fully recovered and, when he came to the office, always insisted on standing. It was very sad.

Good grief! Chase wasn’t Dracula, but behaving like Renfield. How interesting.

Every Western country potentially has this problem. Don’t sit back and sneer at the UK…

I assure you that gaslighters of all ilks are more often aware of what they’re doing than not. And some will use calculated implied threats, if not actual violence, to reinforce their control if they perceive that their madness-inducing tricks are failing. Otherwise, this is a textbook expose of the bar studs 👍

Yo! I’m Polaris! Pew-pew!

Fine, but the levels need to be monitored and adjusted regularly as, I believe, too much testosterone for men 60+ can lead to faster aging.
3
@PariahOmega-rh3lu you are a troll, yes? You're 'argument' is nonsensical.
3
@beewest5704 are you in the UK? My ex, newly diagnosed with diabetes (by the doctor; he’d had symptoms for a long time but ignored my advice…) got a dietary advice booklet which repeated the fake food pyramid ad infinitum.
3
The British working class has been aware of this since the 1960s. Ever heard of (excuse the spelling) pack-eee-bashing?
2
They could just call it its proper name: rat pox. Seriously. It’s a rat disease.
2
There you go. The government didn’t poison anyone - the bootleggers did.
2
Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado”: need I say more? Omg! You reference the Ancrene Wisse! Kudos, Simon 👍

Imo, people popping ‘smart drugs’ in order to make themselves smarter, aren’t very smart to begin with!

Another drug shipped in from China, hm?

My neighbours’ weed smoke regularly permeates my house, to my detriment. I understand that fentanyl traces can carry in smoke, but can xylazine do that, too?

The climate change money-grab lie has been responsible for an awful lot of human suffering, not just those people/children enslaved for cobalt mining. If someone wants to build electric cars - aka souped-up golf carts - then maybe finding alternative, cleaner ways of storing power might be a better way forward, and that’ll benefit us all in the long run.

During 1980, while at University, I saw an emergency doctor, because I had stomach pains and vomiting which had lasted two days. Must have been due to severe anxiety, because I’m a woman, right? Promptly given a prescription for Valium and sent on my way. Another day, another emergency doctor and it turns out that I had a nasty case of food poisoning… I avoided that bullet but a lot of other students were taking these drugs regularly.

Don’t forget THX1138!

@ that'd be our PM.

I have no doubt that these kinds of institutions will again soon be a feature of America in the 2020s.

I refer you to Tousi TVs interview with Raja Miah. Watch, listen, and learn.

I wish the UK government would ban areca/betel nut chewing to go along with khat. There’s similar and quite frightening health risks.

‘Harmless’ cannabis use can cause an extreme, rare mental disarrangement. Makes you wonder how many users are developing or already living with less obvious issues.
1
@ nope, I'm saying ti like it is. Ist and phobe thrown around by the Left and the Conservatives gave way, just like everyone else did because... well, cancellation is the polite word.
1
@Essex121514 ever hear of Political Correctness? That's Woke #1. I use the term DEI because it is something you kiddies can relate to. Hi, Boomer here.
1
Is it? Good grief! Is anyone sending out a big dog with a barrel of brandy round its neck?
1
You imagine only the evil capitalist West is involved in this? Guess again…
1
Oh, I don’t like him at all but, by the Lord Harry, colour me definitely impressed by his razor-edged timing.
1
Some people never read “The Princess and Curdie” (author McDonald, first print 1883). Smh.
1
@isthison2875 I think it's the oldest and most likely explanation. Have you read Andrew Lang?

Heart disease has long been recognised as a common cause of death, just as diabetes has, just as asthma has, just as obesity has, just as… well, infection has. Ffs, there are Ancient Egypt medical texts recording heart disease symptoms and medicines/magic, and we have autopsied mummies!
