She turned up with a golden apple inscribed: for the fairest. Hera, Athena and Aphrodite claimed the apple, which is often referred to as the Apple of Discord (Assassin’s Creed players, take note!). Paris, a young Trojan prince raised in secret as a shepherd, was asked to judge between them and they all offered bribes er… boons, and he chose love, awarding the apple to Aphrodite. As a reward, Aphrodite caused Helen of Troy to fall in love with Paris and you know the rest. So, the script writer was spot on with Velma’s remark that rating hot girls was how the Trojan War started. That was a mythology nerd joke. Colour me, just once, impressed!
