  1. I have a not inconsiderable number of books about myth, archaeology, culture and art. I'm a huge fan of Transformers, Tolkien and Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld. I know what an archetype is. I also know that myths have always been intended to hold universal truths (love, honour, sacrifice etc.), but have been shamelessly abused by those wanting to subvert the original story for their own ends; it's also a thing for a conquering culture to enforce their own myths, removing one of the strongest baselines of the conquered. Need I say more? Furthermore, I take umbrage to the writer's stance on classics as a white male dominated field that needs to be improved upon and replaced. I think this reflects insular minds and is nothing but a straw man argument. There: pedantic rant over.
