  1.  @lifeofchinonso  it’s Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - an upgrade of CBT, if you will. Best analogy: CBT is a closed loop train track (rumination). It encourages you to move away from the source of trouble, but you’ll always return. ACT allows you to recognise and accept that you’re in a closed loop and find the switchgear that enables you to move away onto a new line.

  2. Can I make a reference to a case that Lundy Bancroft discusses in ‘Why Does He Do That?’: An abusive man stabbed his wife in the chest and she was lucky to survive. When asked why he did this, the man stated that she cut his heart with her words, so he was justified in making her feel the same way by physically stabbing her in the heart. What we’re seeing is the operation of the abusive mindset on a grand scale and that, I’m afraid to say, leads to the kind of revolutions that took place in the C20th.

  7. My friend, by working from home you have reduced your carbon footprint. You should tell your manager this repeatedly until you’re ready to suggest you could do better by, say, not using email, eventually moving to refusing to use a computer at all and asking for pen and paper. And then you can extol your virtue for using renewable resources, but point out that cutting down trees affects the biosphere negatively, so you won’t be actively engaged in any further work. At this point, the DIE department will be thrilled and shower you with free money.

  9. A great exposition, but the reference to Set is incorrect. Apep/Apophis, symbol of chaos, contended with Ra, a solar deity and symbol of order, each evening. Ra was defended by, among others, Set/Sutekh who speared the evil snake, hence the red sky at dusk. The cult of Osiris, which took over from the cult of Ra, developed the idea that Set, god of foreigners, was a villain possibly as a result of wars and invasions. However, Set’s name is not the origin of the name Satan, which actually comes from the Hebrew śāṭān, ‘adversary’. I’ll go away now.

And you’re blaming other female athletes for being there to support her and for not wanting to risk a similar mob when the outcome could be much worse? Get real, people!

  11. I dispute the claim that alcohol is ‘almost the sole cause of domestic abuse’. As Lundy Bancroft found, men make the decision to abuse and grab alcohol either for Dutch courage or as an alibi (viz. “I was drunk and can’t remember anything”). Courts are still inclined to accept the alcoholism excuse rather than order a man up for DV to attend an abuser programme and tackle his underlying abusive thinking. We are supposed to believe that it really is intelligent and operating independently of human input, that it’s not just a list set of instructions used to perform a task step by step i.e. an algorithm. Artists and writers do not control the algorithms; those who write the algorithms do, controlling the output, that being what we are are ultimately constrained to see/think/say/do: Wokeism x 1984 x Brave New World x Fahrenheit 451 x THX1138 x Logan’s Run x Harrison Bergeron x Slow Tuesday Night x ….. do I need to add more?

My children were victims of “New English” (illiteracy); “New Maths” (innumeracy); “New Religious Studies” (Marxist sociology); “New History” (no Western history here); and don’t even start me on “New Science” which taught global warming as its core subject and blatant lies about biology… There’s the clue: “New”. For the record, our local education area has been run by Left Wingers since the 1950s.
