  1. I dispute the claim that alcohol is ‘almost the sole cause of domestic abuse’. As Lundy Bancroft found, men make the decision to abuse and grab alcohol either for Dutch courage or as an alibi (viz. “I was drunk and can’t remember anything”). Courts are still inclined to accept the alcoholism excuse rather than order a man up for DV to attend an abuser programme and tackle his underlying abusive thinking.
