We Brits don’t hate ourselves, we just have this incredible sense of self-aware gallows humour that’s not afraid to point out absurdities… and downright horrors. Humour holds up a plain mirror to the distortions of the real world. Every po-faced, agenda-driven ideologue wants to criminalise it because they know they’ll be the butt of some perspicacious, gentle, but bitter jokes q.v.
