  1. This is a true story: At the 2008 Birmingham Discworld Convention, Sir Terry Pratchett came, somewhat worse for wear, to a 9:30am story reading aimed at 4 to 12 year olds. Afterwards, he gave away signed copies of various suitable books, and also dispensed valuable advice to my son, then aged 11, who asked him if he was okay: “Never stay up to 4am even if you’re offered free beer.”
