The FT reported in 2016 that he was taking attache cases of cash from Azeri buyers for his condos right up until the time Obama outlawed this. These people passed his KYC checks, but other sources do indicate that these people are almost certainly shady money people. I think Trump has some KYC issues that would not bear close inspection. It's even been suggested this is real estate money laundering.
