This kind of matchmaking requires some close-knit community to be in place. From what I heard, Japanese people are not close to their neighbors in cities. This is why some people die in their apartments and not have their bodies discovered for months. Perhaps if there was stronger community ties young singles might welcome meddlers back instead of treating them like nuisances(13:03).
