My car doesn't come into this equation as it's Diesel, but my bike is a 1988 model, capable of 165mph, I know for certain from drag racing it does better times on the standing quarter mile on fuel like shell V power than it does on 95 or 98 octane fuel, older vehicles need better fuel, I sometimes even put Lead additive into a tank, & it certainly goes better, but I agree, on modern vehicles, what you call 'regular' is perfectly fine !
