I looked at the Royal Tiger listings for Lugers. Every one of them is an oddball... in a good way. I wouldn't think of any of them as a refined collectible. However, they do have a lot of "Mosin charm." The fun in owning one comes from curating its history and imagining the hands that it passed through on its way to yours. The fact that the Luger in this video served in four different armies is quite remarkable. When I look at my 1944 Mosin carbine, I find myself asking it, "Where have you been? What did you do? Did you get your owner through the war safely?"

I grew up during the Vietnam era and, fortunately for me, missed being of draft age until our police action there came to an end. All the older brothers in my neighborhood who came back from Vietnam referred to the M-16 as the Mattel 16. The name was intended as a joke because the actual M-16 rifle was so awful in jungle conditions. My dad, a weapons expert, made it clear to me that Mattel didn't make real guns. Although some might argue that Mattel might be disavowing any weapons making activity now, I contend that Mattel would have been proud of their involvement at the time and would have made a big deal about it. Mattel LOVED that war. They were shoving toy guns at my generation at a fever pitch, getting us excited about going to a war on the other side of the planet. Kids like me who grew up target shooting and hunting thought the pro-war marketing bs was stupid, but I'm sure many young men bought the hype. Those were the guys who didn't do well.

I thought the same thing. A color printed manual is most unusual. I have Leica camera manuals from the same era and they're all black & white. If the manual for Germany's best camera was B&W, it's surprising to see a color gun manual.

Great shooting. The Tokarev is quite a weapon.

By World War III, do you mean what's happening in Ukraine and Israel right now?

I've been an outdoorsman for six decades. I proudly obey every South Carolina wildlife regulation like my father before me. I think the annihilation of the American bison herds is a crime against nature and humanity. I have no respect for Buffalo Bill Cody and the other thugs responsibile for this travesty.

I've always wondered why WWII holsters, both Axis and Allied, are usually full coverage with a locking flap over the top of the pistol. Is it to protect the weapon from the elements? It certainly wouldn't be much help if a soldier found himself in an ambush situation where milliseconds count.

Didn't HK/Nobel have ANYONE who could say "This is stupid"?

These look like Klingon weapons to me. You've been stealing stuff from Area 51, haven't you?

I'm impressed.

I was one year too young to be drafted into Vietnam, but I knew a lot of fellow southeastern guys who went. Having grown up hunting, most of them knew firearms quite well. Few of them had anything good to say about the M-16.

I have an alternate analysis: It's a crime weapon. It's quiet and it retains its brass until the assassin can more conveniently eject it.

Very interesting. Thanks.

The first thing I thought was NO WAY it's a forgotten weapon. My dad wore one on his back while driving a Seabee bulldozer in Korea. Also, the M1 carbine is the main rifle prop used on McHale's Navy, my favorite TV show since childhood. Great rifle!

🤣

I would think that a braced pistol would be a poor choice for committing crimes. It's cumbersome and better suited for shooting prairie dogs, tin cans, or other small things that aren't shooting back.

The ghost of legendary Chicago guitarist Terry Kath says the magazine disconnect is a good idea. Leave it in!

Earlier today I watched a YouTube video in which the "expert" rested the muzzle of his AR-15 directly into the dirt while he demonstrated his FAB Defense mag stock. My Dad taught me not to do that when I was a first grader sixty years ago! Apparently that gentleman's father did not.

Uh.... Botanists study plants, not butterflies. Lepidopterists study butterflies.

What happens when the magic gun gets dropped onto the pavement on its computer nose or on its camera rear end? Does it become useless when its computer crashes? Does it weigh enough that you might be able to throw it at your opponent and maybe put out his eye?

This is what the security guards carry at Spacely Sprockets.

Well... It has a pretty case.

Thanks for a rational presentation of this issue.
1
Wow. What can you say? You'd be better off throwing rocks at your opponent.

Your Curtis LeMay impression is impeccable.

It's an impressive rendering of a weak idea. The engineering & machining are pretty cool, but your opponent would annihilate you while you're reloading.
