  1.  Isn't alot of what we do conspicuous consumption? Like shoes, jewelry, cars, clothes all together. Even dressing our children in anything but simple clothing?  We could wear rags, we may seem poor. Is this the point of conspicuous consumption? For example   I think because Silver and Gold are very useful elements with properties that can be applied to many different aspects of life to accomplish different tasks.  At the same time serving a purpose all on it own. Thus creating two properties of value, personally perceived utility. And a perceived conspicuousness of the purchase. Which could be equated to utility in a social context. So I just dont see how it is a problem? Trading and Buying things is a conspicuous act by its nature. Would you rather one's wealth and value be hidden behind a charade of equality where none exist?
