  1. I was once happily q resident of Galveston about 14 years. In Sept 13 2013. The anniversary of the 1900 storm. I rode it out because my cars were not good enough. And I had 3 large dogs. It was only a 2 storm hurricane Ike but it had a 500 year flood attached to it. The powers that be would not let us walk on the seawall it was so damaged. And some friend that had 2 stories had flooding on the second level. The insurance hikes drove a lot of people away. It was about 15 ft storm serge . Which was highest in memory. Seawall grade raising only do so much the effort has to go on forever. Galveston is an air b and b town now so most people have moved away next big storm will have the air b and be move away. Leaving Galveston near empty. People need to make plans for climate change soon the waters will not ever recede
