  1. I left Galveston tx and moved to Seattle Washington in 2015 at 60 years old. Galveston tex being on a barrier island on the gulf coast has weather that will kill you as well as the rest of Texas and the southern tier. Being born in South Louisiana I have seen it grow worse all my long life. I cannot even keep track of the many gulf hurricanes every year that threaten the people I care about. But I remembered a stretch of 22 years in the late 1900s and the early 2000s where we only had tropical storms which gave us needed rain and helped with what was otherwise blast furnace heat. But no if Galveston does not have tropical weather there are spring summer fall droughts. It's too expensive to grow a garden and the water becomes salty because the gulf backs up into the water supply. But the biggest reason I left was money and before my money ran out. I could only get a part time job at minimum wage no heath care ghetto mass transit. And 12 dollars a month food stamps. My neighbors bought my house so I did not go into foreclosure. And I took what I had left and got out of town. I am priveledhed to be able to do that even if it took everything I had. I am fairly content to live in an expensive city on a social security check. I am able to meet most of my needs in walking distance and a world class hospital is a block away. Another one is 2 blocks away a third is 5 blocks away. I miss the Galveston that was but she is no more

  3. I lived in Galveston tx for 11 years in Texas more than 30 years. So many reasons to leave but increased storms was one of them. So I live in seattle now on a hill. If all the ice melted I my life time I would be on a little island but there are plenty of mountains east of me.
