In Australia a few decades ago, the 80's maybe, mental institutions were phased out after repeated scandals of widespread terrible abuse. In Townsville were I grew up Ward 10B at the local hospital was notorious. But as this guy says there was no adequate plan B, it's like society gave up on trying to fix a complicated problem except for the thin line of community heroes doing there best but only being able to put a band-aid on a gaping wound that gets worse without proper care. We need to do better.

Has to be the longest comment I have ever seen but is a complicated issue and everything said entirely true. Seems to be a widespread issue, remember reading about the problem of not enough being done to fix/replace the shutdown broken institution system over 20yrs ago in Australia. A lot of people do great work which is so essential but the scale of the problem needs much more investment/attention from our governments. Mental health seems like it's only getting bigger as a problem with time.
