People lacking the information literacy to not recognise the difference between opinion and objective reporting in the varied field of journalism is a big problem today. But it is the modern media and its environment that bears a lot of responsibility for this happening. So we've all been sucked into being idiotic with our media consumption, from a tiny bit through to a lot.

  3. ​​ @jcg333 you're doubling down on your naivety. Journalism has always had an opinion lane. It's when it's muddied with objective journalism that creates problems. Hence the podcast title! Legit debate on validity etc can be had but not recognising the difference between opinion reporting and objective reporting is an example of the really important present day problem that is information illiteracy. If still confused, here's a definition "Objective reporting is meant to portray issues and events in a neutral and unbiased manner, regardless of the writer's OPINION or personal beliefs". "Opinion journalism is journalism that makes no claim of objectivity, it features a subjective viewpoint, usually with some social or political purpose". Both are forms of journalism that have been around forever.
