  2. "there would be safeguards in place". Previous Republican presidencies (incl. Trump) have worked to weaken safeguards, and Trump's immunity argument is the latest attempt to weaken democratic safeguards. Safeguards on democracy work until they are weakened enough to fail. Definitely hope there are safeguards that have procedures for your second point, "he would immediately be stripped of his office until a proper hearing", but hope they are more than impeachment by congress which has proven to be wholly inadequate.
