  1. Here's a thought experiment. If I put sounds to the language, and speak it consistently while consistently pointing to the pictures in it and gesturing... Then you ask me to translate everything to English, which I do, with the usual caveats inherent in the inexactitude/waffling trade-off. How, if other than by maintaining consistency (which cannot be comprehensively tested), could you determine whether I genuinely understand it or am just talented in keeping up the deception?
