There's different kinds of smart. It's hard to imagine anyone mis-managing the colossal funding and manpower physics has had as wildly badly as the group who have managed it. Its like the NHS having been wildly inefficient when nurses were promoted to IT managers. Doesn't mean business people are the best to fix the problem, but the people currently in charge have crashed the mothership entirely yet still think they're flying.

Dark Matter is a name for a class of theories regarding those observations. The way you so over-confidently mis-inform and mislead is very frustrating. Youre not educating people, you're giving them a false sense of understanding. You are at least as bad as tabloid press, if not worse.

Physicists genuinely believe Gibbs&Heaviside manically and magically "simplified" 7 (or 20) quaternion equations into 4 linear equations. This literally impossible feat is just accepted as having happened and become proven. Our building on the shoulders of giants is just building on a pile of really bad mutually inconsistent assumptions. Worse still, the assumptions are suvh that theories are no longer genuinely falsifiable. Populism is a critical but denied force in the development of mathematics and physics. Its created a Platonic cult for whom everything is proof of their beliefs - even contradictions. Ex falso quodlibet sequitur. Yet we still have many falsos from 1880 onwards inextricably woven into the foundations. This religion has managed to create its panethon, priesthood, lore, and even coming messiahs! Experiments can't prove or disprove anything until a theory is logically cogent, and that hasn't happened since Maxwell - as is common knowledge and the original root of the yearning for a cognet thwory that includes this pile of platonic quantum BS.

The reason the theory of everything matters so much is it was ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to the arguments which put belief in the quantum pantheon above belief in God. Without a theory of everything, Occam's razor prefers God. If you're going to use axiomatic logic, you need consistent axioms, butbgödel proved they don't exist. The fact a TOE doesn't matter anymore just proves experimental engineering has been redefined as physics, physics as what the population hope and expect and read about is pretty much dead.

If you, like me, had the mathematics and physics background to read the relevant papers; each group thinks the other's view is more or less trash. Did you know, literally nobody on the planet can solve the gravitational equations for spiral galaxies and that the "missing mass" is relative to a newtonian calculation? The state of the field is ridiculous. Much like the state of a mind which hangs on threads of perceived authority rather than actual grounded first principles mathematical reasoning grounded in observation. Pull up a chair and take notes like a good student, or buzz off with your low grade embarrassing fail to attack out of sheer ignorance.

@soupydude5315 Nope, read again. The "observations" are not dark matter. The observations together with the theory that newtonian approximation is good enough produces the phenomenon of physicists believing in dark matter. I think you might be fundamentally too slow to parse that out.

Those are all engineering feats. Indeed, what has physics done for us? I have a degree in theoretical physics, and a large library of books charting the development of physics. It crashed into a wall in 1930s and everyone went mad during the cold war associating a religion with mathematics describing engineering capabilities.

@DarthQuantum-ez8qz quite right. Although I think the confusion comes from crediting physics with what was actually almost entirely engineering using thermodynamics, with barely a toy model, all of which are known to be wrong, as a guide from physics.
