The Idea Henry 8 left Catholicism because of wanting to remarry is so unbelievably historically naive. Imagine still being fooled by propaganda that old.

@chuletaization Catholics held huge power, and the Frankish kindoms had huge sway over the Pope's geopolitical decisions. Breaking away gave back sovereignty which allowed him to persue his claims over parts of France. There were also of course the power struggles between his feudal Lords and the church. Added to this, Woolsey had been his friend for decades but once Henry raised his ranks in the Catholic church Woolsey turned on him in a few big ways (not least of which was to cede more power and decisions on warfare to the pope). I can't write a book here, but the idea it was because he was a horny womaniser was propaganda that lives until today. Much like the "evil prince John vs Richard Lionheart" propaganda which is really opposite-land stuff concocted by thr Barons.
