Believe it or not most people get rid of cars because they are tired of them not because of problems. With OBD II it’s now much harder to cover up issues.

@jarvisparker8738 Most engines would have catastrophically failed with no oil changes for 46k miles.

@IsaacSnyder-w8p Most people that don’t maintain their cars or think it’s a scam voted for 46.

@brianwelch1579 The biggest thing is whether they at least added oil. An engine will run for a long time with dirty oil vs very little time with no oil.

@jimamizzi1 If you buy a car as is from a dealer and it has a pre-existing condition they are on the hook to correct it. They have to disclose issues. That being said the buyer should have done a long test drive and mechanical inspection. The oil would turn dirty very quickly and of course the engine doesn’t sound healthy.

@bme7491 True, but a dealer can’t cover up issues they the knew about or should have known about.

@robertherrmann4823 I don’t trust mechanics to inspect the car. They have nothing to gain from it. If it breaks in the future it’s more of an opportunity for them to make money. The buyer should have inspected it themselves. Anyone with good hearing could tell the engine was worn out. The PPI inspector will glance at the car and stick $150 in their pocket. Home Inspectors are even worse. People that can’t get jobs anywhere else become home inspectors.

@bch5513 You can change it after high miles if you do a little at a time and if needed add anti slip additive.

Not all oil services are reported. Your loss is my gain.

It was because all of sludge was removed by having to add a bunch of new oil and oil changes from 46k to 66k. It may have had an oil flush as well. It obviously ran low on oil at some point to be worn out that much.

@robster7787 Mechanics don’t look at the car during the trade in process. A sales consultant with basically no mechanical knowledge drives the car around the block and makes an offer. Most cars just have minor issues. It’s not worth it for sales to pay service to inspect every car before a transaction.

@ronfazer2423 Records are often fraudulent. Check the current condition.

@Rafegaret People generally don’t get their out of warranty car fixed at the dealer. Most people buy used cars and not at new car dealers.
