@MrOnlinmrine The new engine is actually more reliable. There is no timing belt like the 4.7 V8. There is no head gasket leaks, air injection issues, or cam tower leaks like the 4.6 and 5.7 V8s. The air injection issues were solved in the later years. The most reliable Tundra engines are the 1GR and current twin turbo V6.

All DI engines will put some gas in the oil. It’s really not a big deal with Toyotas if you do regular oil changes.

He will have to do it at a Toyota dealer.

@DIYDaveOK I doubt they give him a free engine, but who knows.

@charley95sheridan44 I’d get a dealer to replace it now. It can fail and cause sudden loss of power leading to a serious accident which would be on the owner for not having the recall done.
