  1. dude, a $1,000 bill can be paid off in tiny monthly payments over a few years. or your parents could have paid it. medical systems usually let you make payments and also have forgiveness for low income people, etc.

  2. can't low income new yorkers get medicaid etc? why not just make a law that medical debt banckruptcy can't be held against you for anything like renting or hiring. all it does is delay thier ability to buy a home. not forever stop them. this seems like a nonprofit convinced the Mayor to hand them a lot of money they will def profit off of by handling all of this.
