Its amazing that suburban housewives will see vehicles like this and think "no I want a Ford F750000 XL 4X4 Powerstroke with a 15 inch lift, 80 inch tires, rocket thrusters, machine guns and a bulldozer blade." Meanwhile I'm a single guy with no kids and I want one of these. A minivan is kinda the most practical layout for a vehicle.

The Land Cruiser looks better, has a more practical interior and gets better mpg. The Lexus is better value, it has a better powertrain, has more trunk space and an optional 3rd row and it tows more. So I agree with you. For just a little bit more money you could have the Lexus which is a better car. For me the I4 hybrid is an instant deal breaker. The turbo V6 is still questionable but they seem pretty reliable so far. Keep in mind the V6 in the GX is a different engine than the one in the LX, Tundra and Sequoia. I'm no fan of turbo engines in trucks but its a V6 or a I4 hybrid. If I had the money I would buy a used 200 series and forget the new Toyota products. Hell the new cars use 0W8 oil, that's basically water. Screw that.

This is one of the only $85,000 vehicles thats actually worth $85,000. People wonder why a Toyota costs so much. Well its because its built like a tank, can go anywhere and is still a great luxury vehicle.

I like the exterior styling and the simple interior of the Land Cruiser better. But the hybrid 4 banger is the weak point. Not only is it a smaller engine but the battery pack eats into the cargo area quite a bit. Now it only makes a little less power when paired with the hybrid system but the engine still makes about 280 hp by itself. Out of a 2.4 liter which sounds impressive but what I hear is the overstressed components screaming in pain. A regular naturally aspirated 2.4 would probably make somewhere around 160-180 hp. So in order to get 280 hp out of it you really have to turn up the boost. Then you generate a lot of heat which has to be dealt with. Once common way they do this is by having thinner cylinder walls with slits in them and a larger water jacket. Thinner walls + high boost = problems. Plus you have all the issues associated with turbo engines. Carbon buildup on valves, lower compression and rich mixture which hurts efficiency, high heat which stresses everything especially gaskets and added complexity. Now a 3.4 liter non turbo V6 would make somewhere around 270-300 hp. So bumping it up to 350 hp is not that much of an increase which means low boost. Still not as reliable as a naturally aspirated V6 but much better than the 2.4 I4 turbo. If Toyota put the V6 in the Land Cruiser it would be perfect. Or a turbo diesel I4. Diesels have much thicker cylinder walls and more durable components in general so they can handle lots of boost.

I've got a Chevy Impala with the 3.6 V6. I'm a sedan guy so I looked at new sedans on sale today. None of them have a V6 until you step up to the luxury brands and then they have a turbo V6. Hell even most crossovers have turbo I4s. A turbo I4 making the power of a V6 is not going to last as well. You have overstressed components, more complexity, carbon build up, much higher operating temperature, etc. The government needs to stop with these unrealistic emission standards.

Can anyone explain the point of a plug in hybrid? I get that you can drive all electric for 40 miles. But then you have to plug it in to charge it. So why not buy a full EV? The point of a hybrid is to have something that can run partly electric and partly gas so you don't have to plug it in. Otherwise it makes much more sense to buy a regular EV.

@dynxmicjake The 3.6 is a pretty bulletproof engine. I get lots of guys saying anything GM is crap. Yeah a lot of their cars from the 2000s are crap but others are great. Any of the v8s are bullet proof. Too bad all their trucks are overpriced luxury cars and the 3.6 is effectively dead.

This has always been the ideal muscle car. The Camaro is too low, twitchy and harsh. The visibility is the worst. The Dodge is a Dodge. Horrible quality and reliability. For those who want a sporty drive the Dodge is too big and heavy. The Mustang is somewhere in between. Its sporty yet comfortable and practical. Sales reflect this and now its the only one you can buy. Dodge has the new Charger but come on nobody is going to buy that.

@brandonp5656 For me one of the biggest issues for EVs is having to plug them in. Considering most average people don't really have anywhere to do that. But if you do have somewhere to charge it then you don't have to take it to the gas station to fill it up. With a plug-in hybrid you have to do BOTH. So what the hell?
