Saying "edited it" is the hardest thing i've ever done. And i had to climb mount Everest everyday to get to school.....

While this is amazing tech I think Porsche is better off pursuing E fuels. E fuels would allow you to keep the conventional ICE design while still meeting the absurd environmental regulations.

@AanotherAardvark What are you talking about, i spelled it rite.

Both have a place in the future. For those that live in cities and commute short distances, EV's will do fine. But for everyone else Hydrogen will have to be it. Kind of like today except instead of driving Hydrogen cars we drive ICE cars. My plan for the future would include investing heavily in producing biofuel (ethanol and biodiesel) from algae that can be grown in the desert as to not use valuable arable land. Biofuel produces much less carbon dioxide and it produces no "new" co2, as in the co2 was already in the atmosphere and not stored underground for millions of years. We can begin mixing the ethanol with gasoline and gradually increasing the percentage until its 100% ethanol. While all of this is going on we can invest in nuclear fusion, solid state batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, and anything else that might be invented between now and then. Another plus of hydrogen is that it can be used as a combustible fuel, so we can use it to replace natural gas among others.

@propellhatt Well you know, my Grandpa tells me that he had build the Earth every morning just have somewhere to have a school. Then he would have to build a space shuttle and escape before the Earth imploded into a black hole every afternoon. The Earth was very unstable in those days.

You should write a book.

@AanotherAardvark I know.............I was there.

I get what he's saying about taking part in the experiment. Why not buy a Porsche Taycan? Trust me that silicon valley car is going to be falling apart in no time. Buying a car from a tech company is like getting open heart surgery from a dentist. Btw the future as far as i can tell is either hydrogen fuel cells or energy dense solid state batteries. But like you said either way its going to be driven by electric motors.

I need a recording of this car idling so i can play it on a loop while i sleep. That W16 is in my opinion the best sounding engine in history.

I would much rather have a 240SX, or maybe a Supra if I'm rich.

I've been talking about this for a while now. Hydrogen is going to be the best solution and replacement for ICE. It combines the benefits of both ICE and EV's without any of the cons. Its 100% clean, 90% efficient and just as convenient as an ICE vehicle. People say that battery technology will catch up but i think that certain challenges just cannot be overcome with batteries. Mainly power density/weight, charging times and infrastructure. Infrastructure is the big one, not everyone lives in big house in an American suburb. What about Europe where people park on the street or people who live in an apartment? How are they going to charge their car in the garage overnight? Yes hydrogen has some daunting challenges as well, but they seem much more achievable than those of EV's. The main challenges will be production/transportation/storage of the hydrogen. We already have a huge network of fuel stations around the world so we can simply modify them to offer hydrogen alongside gasoline and diesel.

I like it however i don't think it fills the shoes of the old Defender. Its too fancy. The old Defender was simple and rugged, you could beat the shit out of it and it would keep going. With this thing if you drive through a dust storm it will destroy one of the 5 millions computers and cause the whole car to shut down. So yes its a good vehicle just not really a "replacement" for the old Defender.

Considering how dreary and underpowered electric cars have been historically, one would think that there is an inherent flaw in the technology itself that keeps it from achieving power figures comparable to that of internal combustion engines. But no, it turns out that electric motors are significantly more powerful. When the Bugatti Veyron came out in 2005 with 1001 HP everyone lost it. Even to this day getting 1500 HP out of a street legal production car is quite an accomplishment. But it seems that every electric hypercar coming out today has nearly 2000 HP. If we can just pioneer batteries that are superior to Lithium Ion than electric cars are going to be unstoppable, both performance wise and economic wise.

@Erik Mikkelsaar Maybe, but electric motors are still superior. I love the combustion engine and knowing that its time on this Earth is limited is truly heartbreaking. But just like the steam engine before it, things become obsolete and must be replaced. You wouldn't still use dial-up in a world of high speed internet would you?

GM has a long history of making great cars that they discontinue because they don't sell 90 million units in the first month. The Chevy SS or the Cadillac CT6 come to mind. They were great cars and had decent sales but not enough for GM. Yet they spend billions of dollars to design and manufacture something like the SSR which anyone could tell is not going to sell.

If Clarkson has taught me anything its that the solution is always speed and power. Get a fast car and escape the virus. I'm driving to Alaska right now. You can't get the virus if you're not around people.

Is this video sponsored by Napa by some chance?

@kokofan50 Well really everything has a negative energy investment. Its a law of physics, you always get less energy out of something than you put in. Its about converting an unusable energy into a usable one. But i am curious about what you said about converting seawater into hydrocarbon fuels. I've never heard of it.
