Free college is not "nice". It is an investment. College graduates pay 10 times the taxes of non-graduates. Free healthcare: same thing. Healthy people are more productive. Entrepreneurship would increase. How many people are afraid to leave their jobs because of benefits like healthcare. It could turn the country around. You are stuck in the mud with your old thinking.

@Rathkryn Fascism is corporations controlling the government. We are very close to that. We now have an Oligarchy : government controlled by the super wealthy. No one can dispute this.

@CP-fz4sr Who's talking about Socialism (government run economy)? No one is for a government run economy. 50% of Americans now live in or near poverty conditions. IT'S A FAILED SYSTEM. I take it you didn't come from Germany or Denmark (why would you be here?). where people don't worry about going bankrupt if they get sick and where people are entitled to 4 weeks paid vacation. Regarding college, if someone invests in an education resulting in huge debts of $50,000 to $100,000 , they can't afford to buy anything (actually they paid for a house, they just have one to live in). It the past, college graduates would buy a house and start a family. Today, they can''t do that. It's stunting the economy. Do you know who John Wayne was? You sound like him.

@hellsheathen214 You sound like the hillbilly guarding his moonshine stll.

@Phantom8589 So what planet were you born on? I found this graph showing the unemployment rate of the US. Obama got into office in 2008. https://www.cbpp.org/sites/default/files/styles/downsample150to92/public/atoms/files/5319u7.png?itok=4wEWQMKx Study this long and hard and you tell me where Obama left and where Trump made any dramatic changes. You can't. The Great Recession (the last one on the graph) occurred after Bush nearly destroyed the economy in the late 2000's. look it up . Don't continue to be a fool. Here's another one. Mean family income is a disaster . (Bush became president in 2000) https://cdn.theatlantic.com/static/mt/assets/business/assets_c/2012/08/Pew_History_Middle_Class_Families_Income_History-thumb-615x447-96949.png The economy is booming for rich people. The stock market us up, but that is not a reflection of the economy. It is the reflection of rich people having more money than they know what to do with.

@FazeParticles The military spends much more than that. That's a drop in the bucket. The Iraq war alone cost nearly 5 trillion . That number will climb over the years because I don't think it includes long term healthcare for the tens of thousands of wounded.
1
@FazeParticles OK They spent 5 trillion dollars for both wars (they had two wars going on at the same time). The odd thing is Saudi Arabians piloted the planes that flew into the towers. Saudi Arabia may have paid for it. So our response was? Invade Iraq! Invade Afghanistan! Invade everyone except the Saudis. Google George Bush/ Osama Bin Laden There was an interesting connection between those two.

@FazeParticles A week. Really. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_War#/media/File:OIF_fatalities_by_month.png You learned that on Fox News?

Sanders is a Democratic Socialist, which is simply a general term describing a system which benefits the public . This has nothing to do with the economic "Socialism" associated with Marx, communism, etc. Franklin Roosevelt would have voted for Sanders. Democratic Socialist countries in Europe offer free healthcare (costs are way lower than in the US) , free college, progressive taxation etc. which is why they top the "Happiest Countries" Lists.

Jeffrey Johnson A few Socialist programs in the US: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Highway Departments, Fire Departments, Police Department, Post Office, National Parks. Which of these did you want to get rid of?
1
Jeffrey Johnson Of course they are socialist. Do you think they run at a profit? Sanders just wants to expand it to include healthcare, college, etc. An investment. Do you think investors in General Motors get in a tizzy when they 'throw away' millions of dollars building new plants? Sanders wants to invest in people - like they do in Europe. It's smart and cost effective. You have to drop the John Wayne mentality and think smart.

Jeffrey Johnson Boeing, others make huge profits. More war!
1
Jeffrey Johnson I think you are confusing government assistance with socialism.
