@danielblea3520 The Republicans controlled the Senate at the time so they set the rules. The Democrats were not allowed to present witness testimony . Can you imagine that? A trial with no witnesses. It was a monkey trial, a sham. I don't recall Democrats addressing a mob before. When did that ever happen? Trump, with taxpayer money, held a rally behind the White House. They set up a fancy (tax payer financed) stage and everything. The mob, dressed in attack gear (I don't know if they had the gallows to hang Mike Pence with them or not) , sticks, helmets, Confederate flags, bear spray was addressed by the President of the United States. What an embarrassment for our country. You are worried about wasting tax payer money? Trump's attack caused 30 million dollars damage to the capital and countless millions prosecuting the criminals who did his bidding.

@wh8085 Whoever is in control sets the rules. That is how it has always been. The Republican controlled Senate did that with Trump's impeachment trial. They decided the trial would have no witnesses. Remember?

@wh8085 Why did Trump hold a rally behind the White House on the day the electoral votes were to be certified? Why did he send them to the capital , telling them to "be strong"? The election had already been decided. Last I looked, I didn't see anything in the Constitution allowing a sitting president to instigate a raid on the proceedings. @wh8085 No, the people who took part in the insurrection are now saying they had "dozens" of planning sessions with GOP congressmen and Trump staff. The attack went exactly as planned. The criminal activity went all the way to the top. The only thing that went wrong was Pence decided to abide by the constitution instead of a washed up TV game show host.
