  1. He missed the most likely scenario: Sunni vs Shi'a Islam. This war is already being fought by proxies like Hezbollah and ISIS/ISIL. Iran (Shi'a) essentially controls the capitals of 4 nations: Lebanon, Syria, Iraq (Shi'a regions) and Yemen; also Iran is aligned with Russia and has made inroads into Afghanistan and Pakistan. Meanwhile, the US is aligned with both Saudi Arabia and Turkey (both Sunni). Although Russia and the US aren't likely to initiate nuclear weapons, don't count on Erdogan in Turkey or Khamenei in Iran to use such restraint.
