  5. Major difference between fires and volcanic explosions. Volcanic explosions can project ash 40,000 feet (altitudes at which large commercial aircraft fly) into the atmosphere and eject gases as well as ash. That's what causes the ash from an eruption to last so much longer.

  7.  @SubterrelProspector  Climate science is based on models and models are based on assumptions. "Reputable" just means the assumptions are mainstream, but there was a time when the sun revolving around the earth was mainstream and that model was wrong.
