More likely the infrastructure will deteriorate from lack of maintenance long before they can grow into it. Demographics are against them, with contraction rather than growth being the more likely scenario.

@alexliu5806 Not all the infrastructure will deteriorate, but those that aren't sufficiently productive to warrant maintenance. Older people don't care about traveling by high-speed rail and why should the young foot the bill to keep it up when they will be already be feeling crushed by caring for their parents, children, and the massive debt burden that fueled China's previous GDP growth illusion? The difference between Japan and South Korea versus China has to do with the economic and political structure that rewards innovation, something that the CCP always endeavors to crush.

With China's rapidly-aging population, who cares if a trip takes an extra 16 hours! In China currently, the retirement age for men is 60, while for women, it is 55 for white-collar workers and 50 for blue-collar employees.

@alexliu5806 I believe it will. Take a look at how Japan is using robotics to deal with the smaller workforce due to the aging population.
