Absolutely nordic style. That's how we do things!
Sweden by the way has had increasing crime rates several places over the years, it can get extremely rough there. Norway and Denmark's crime rates ain't nothing like Sweden's, yet they manage to do their work without guns. Despite a lot of violence and hard crimes, you never hear about people dying at the hands of police, nor the other way around.
It's absolutely possible. You just dont care enough, that's the problem.
I think it's time that the world starts looking towards nordic countries for guidance on many things. The states absolutely have loads to learn from us (talking Scandinavia which is Norway, Sweden and Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Germany, Poland etc.). Not only when it comes to crime and policing, but infrastructure (hint: damn TEXAS), health care and so much more.
No, none of us are perfect either. At least we're trying to get better, our democracy is strong and our rights won't be taken away, like you fear over in the states. We have loads to improve on as well, but at least we're progressing instead of regressing.

@gypsylee333 Nordic prisons are way better than America's. We actually focus on rehabilitation, and it works. Most prisoners up here are only inprisoned ONE TIME, and even in rare cases, two times. More than that is EXTREMELY rare.
We believe that the punishment is getting your freedom taken away for however long. We don't punish people IN prison. Them BEING in prison IS the punishment. We focus on rehabilitation aka preparing them for the outside world. We have good schools and classes in prison, grocery stores, the rooms/cells are usually really nice, they play cards and board games with the guards etc. Some prisons are worse than others, but in general they're all really nice actually. Most prisons in at least Scandinavia actually have better facilities than elderly homes (not saying that's how it should be. Prisons should ABSOLUTELY be as good as they actually are here, BUT the elderly doesn't deserve a lesser standard. That's another topic tho, it just goes to show how good our prisons are). Many homeless people over here actually try to get prison time, especially during our extremely cold winters so they have a good and warm place to sleep while having good access to food and other necessities.
So yes, our prisons are not only very nice, they WORK. Which should be the point. Many people (especially the victims to those being jailed for violent crimes etc.) feel that it's unfair that they have to keep suffering from their trauma while the perpetrator gets a warm bed, good food, schooling, often their own TV in their cell and such, which is absolutely understandable. The goal tho is still to try to make sure as much as possible that the prisoners actually gets rehabilitated, so the likelyhood of even more victims is as low as possible.
I myself live in Norway, where our prisons are very nice. I was homeless for several years and that scum of the earth that brutally raped me for two whole days and could've ended up killing me if I hadn't gotten away in time got sent to a nice facility while I, the innocent victim had to keep on living on the street, and I was barely an adult. I was 18 when this happened. Life on the street for a young girl like myself is rough, to put it extremely mildly. In the long beginning, this infuriated the hell outta me. Of course. Why should he get such nice treatment, sponsored by our tax dollars, while I had to fend for myself, forced to live in constant danger. It just didn't make sense. Still, after a lot of reflection I realized that although I personally should've gotten WAY BETTER help, I don't in ANY way want that bastard to reoffend. So it was better for not only myself but the entire community/city that he actually got good help IN PRISON. What happened to me can't be changed, it's in the past. So I can only look forward. I would rather that even the most vicious people serve their time somewhere were they at least have a good oppurtunity to rehabilitation instead of him only getting worse and even more dangerous when it's time for him to enter society again. If there's even a remote chance that it won't happen again to anyone else, I'm in full support of him getting proper help.
I know for sure that if this happened in America that he'd only get worse in prison (which is unlikely he would have gotten in the states anyway considering how extremely few actually get jail time for rape), and he would certainly reoffend. Then it would be all for nothing. That's what we have to remember. It's not about being lenient towards the scum of the earth, it's about trying to save as many other people as possible from potentially being the next victim(s).
That's what it's all SHOULD be about.
This was extremely hard for me to swollow as I and many others felt he deserved nothing but the absolute worst, which is what he actually DESERVES. The thing is tho, it's not about what they deserve. It's about what the rest of us deserve. That's the key to remember.

@gypsylee333 Would 100% recommend haha! I would NEVER move to the states as a Norwegian. That would be an enourmous downgrade, hehh.. you know, considering free health care, free school for the most part (we do have private schools as well and you have to pay to get in to certain places of higher education, but not close to what the prizes are in America), fairly decent social programs, no guns, little crime etc. It's simply better here in so many ways.
America could come a long way by picking and choosing what they like from countries like those I listed.
Yeah, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland etc. are European, but I wouldn't say it's incorrect to call them northern. Map wise, they are northern despite being in the EU. So calling them northern countries are technically wrong I guess, but still.. they are northern, despite being more south northern. They are NOT Scandinavian which is absolutely correct. I'm 99% sure that only Norway, Sweden and Denmark are Scandinavian probably due to pre-independence times. Never really bothered to learn proper geography in school haha, so yeah.
I still know basic geography, and it would be terribly wrong to claim that Germany or the Netherlands are anything but northern, despite being in the EU. They're northern considering they're fairly high up north on the global map. They're in northern Europe.
There's a difference between Scandinavia and nordic. Scandinavia is northern, yes, but our three countries are often lumped together and referred to Scandinavia. For instance, Finland and Iceland are NOT Scandinavian, they're still northern countries. It can be a little confusing, I get that 😅 But yeah, hope this cleared up any possible confusion.
