I srsly don't understand US's ID-stuff.. here in Norway we all have bank cards w/name, date of birth etc. and a profile picture, those who drive obvs have drivers licenses, and most of us have a passport - bank cards and driver licenses are the most common, tho, esp bank cards which we ALL have, which are incredibly easy and quick to get. Our bank mails them to us for free as soon as we create our bank account, which we usually do as children from the age of 14, I believe. They expire after x amount of years, and by that time the bank automatically, again for free sends us new ones. If we happen to lose them, the bank will send us new ones within a week. That usually goes quick, because ofc when we lose our bank cards, we have to notify the bank - EASILY done by simply calling the bank to get them to block that card so nobody else will be able to use them, and they routinely ask during that same call if we want a new card, which ofc we do. That's practically "free" it's between 100-150 nok (norwegian currency)/about 11USD-17USD. Not that we even have to have that amount on our account for them to send us the new card. So, that's obvs easy for literally everyone. All these are equally valid to prove our ID at the polling places. So for us, proof of ID is a non-issue. We also have early voting with WAAAY MORE THAN ENOUGH polling places, rarely any lines at all anywhere, and we do have voting options for those who for whatever reason like disabilities, illness etc. can't go to a poll - then we have polling workers coming home to you. Voting is incredibly easy and accessable for everyone, no matter where you live here or your abilities to go outside.
Surely, as long as it's this easy and accessable for everyone above the age of 18 (which literally is the only requirement to vote - that and being a citizen, ofc), requiring proof of ID is of no issue. The problem obvs comes when it's NOT that easy, affordable/free and accessable for everyone. That's the issue. It's just crazy to me that the US makes something SO BASIC as an ID such a hastle. It makes NO SENSE.
Sure, go right ahead and require proof of ID - just MAKE SURE you then in the same breath ENSURES that EVERYONE gets whatever ID necessary to vote FOR FREE. If you're gonna pass those kinds of laws requiring this or that, then make absolutely sure that NO ELLIGEBLE VOTER is AT ALL prevented their RIGHT to vote. That's really the heart of the issue. I HATE these repukelikkkunts who in such bad faith tries these sneaky tricks. They KNOW what they're doing and the effects these voting laws have - which ofc is EXACTLY the reason they do it in the first place. It's not to "secure election integrity" it's the exact opposite. It's PREVENTING "unwanted" voters their constitutional right to vote, and it baffles me how it's seemingly so hard to strike down these laws, as they directly interfere with americans constitutional right to vote.
The US truly makes everything good as complicated and unattainable as possible. Anyone still considering America as "the best country on earth" or even close to it is highly delusional, no joke.
