The problem I belive is the two-party system. You should have AT LEAST four parties, five would be good.
In easy terms, split the repukeliKKKans up to two parties, the ones leaning the most to the right like Marjorie T. Green, Ted Cruz, McConnell etc., and the more moderate right like Mitt Romney and.. can't remember anyone else (😂) would be on the more moderate right.
Then split the democrats up to the far left democrats like Bernie "the lovely" Sanders, AOC, Warren, Stacey POWERHOUSE Abrahms etc., and then for the more moderate/more conservative left-wingers would be people like Biden, Kamala, Beto O'Rourke etc. Then there should also be a complete middle, either something like a green party or more of a labour party.
I think such a system would represent WAY MORE americans, get many more better engaged in politics and all. I belive that would force them all to work together more, and it wouldn't all be so black or white like it is now. Nobody is truly either or, we're all extremely nuanced.
Having a two-party system and the electoral college is what I believe to be huge factors with regards to the divisiveness.
Having only two parties is effectively begging for a great divide, like we've seen for so long.
