@Mcvalverte TSMC is a Fab, they manufacture the "designs" for those chips. The have a great process, but the details is in the designs. THAT is where the credit goes.

The qustion is, "Who's out there available, Who's willing to take that hit now that they are behind..."

@Mcvalverte Not really. Because you specified credit to TSMC, who design everything from ARM, RISC, Power+, FPGA's and x86. Talking about who "made" x86 has nothing to do with this. Intel's patent will run out soon and things will get crazy when they do.

@Mcvalverte Ok?! Single core performane? Heterogeneous designs are the future. Which, as you "should know" both Intel and AMD are already moving to. Intel with bigLittle + Xe and AMD with a full HSA. The fact that we are seeing the last days of x86 as we know it, is before us. Apple has demonstrated this with a concentrated move to ARM, and both Intel and AMD have simplified instructions within x86 because of bloat and security. The days of bench marking CPU's alone are for dinosaurs like you and I to remember the old days, while we discuss and we look to a future of computing with instructions passed between a CPU/GPU (AMD) and CPU/FPGA (intel). x86 is dead, and when the patents run out, Intel would have moved on, and woill have AMD. Apple will have a head start because of their "Micro Architecture" and having software compiled for it's instruction sets.
