  2. As for the wise men from the east, there is not much reason to suppose there were three of them, other than them giving three kinds of gifts. Some denominations, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, argue that they were unknowingly serving Satan, trying to direct Herod to the infant Christ and so causing the massacre of the innocents, though they were not nessercerily aware of this.
