  1. Christianity was able to show people the evil of trans Atlantic slavery, likewise it showed people the evil of abortion. You're right though that traditionally Catholics didn't have this view, they were poisoned by Greek Philosophy. Thankfully that particular problem was resolved in time.

  2. At the basic level, every human being has reason to oppose abortion, because every human being should recognise that murder if the innocent is wrong. Abortion isn't really a political issue, you could be fascist, Marxist, ancap, a jihadi, Jehovah's Witness or Baha'i and still recognise, "Killing babies is bad".
