  1. If the Bible is reliable, we are commanded to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. To turn the other cheeck, and repay evil with good. Those are very, as you say, deontological, commands.

  3. Indeed. People throughout history have said "Now we shall set up the kingdom of God!" And that Amillenialism never bears good fruit. Fundamentally, we were tainted by sin, and people, even very intelligent ones like these two, cannot overcome sin by human power. Praise be to God that it is Jesus who will rule, and that God, in his mercy will cleanse us of our sin. It will be fascinating to see whether this techno religion goes well, but neither technology nor politics can save us. "It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his steps."
