@captaindave88 Would you claim that no killing can ever be justified? That in no instance whatsoever it can be considered moral? Morality is the judgement of when extreme means must be used to prevent a worse alternative. Religion sets a variety of standereds around what is absolutely forbidden, what is permissible only in extremis, and so on. Atheism likewise seeks to set such standards. So which standard works best? On the one hand, religion is responsible for the crusades, the inquisition, the war of society of the God-worshipping society and many other instances of clear immorality perpetrated in the name of God. On the other, Atheism is responsible for the Holodomor, the cultural revolution, the Campuchean reign of blood and other examples of clear immorality perpetrated in the name of there not being a God. If we are to judge in this way, religion does come out with less bloody hands, but only because Atheism only became politically prominent recently, when the human population had begun to grow greatly. If we are to judge these doctrines by their acts, we must find a better way than waying bodycounts.
So, how? And is there a group that does not have bloodstained hands?
