  1. They gave Jesus a beard because he was a Jew. Jews have beards, it's a religious obligation. He fulfilled the mosaic Law perfectly, thus he would have had a well maintained beard.

  2.  @ReligionForBreakfast  Any Christian would have had the opportunity to know both the commands of the new testament Greek scripture, and those of the mosaic Law. If the fellow was making images of Jesus, is it unreasonable he had the motivation as well as the ability to learn such things? Any Christian now would reasonably be expected to know that sort of info, so why not an elite, relatively well to do one then?
