Yeah, I bet they feel extremly remote to the world in AK measures, and dream about living in a much more central place where it's just 4 days of dog sleding to town

  46. A resident comment here that there are about 270 people living in the town, of which 200 in the big building, the others mainly in some smaller 3 story appartment building. Might be a handful of houses in use, but seems they found it the most practial to use the appartment buildings, which survived the tsunami. They got a medical center for urgent care. Air-liftedout, or the 1 hour drive to Anchorage if not too critical and the tunnel open. Guess the town was estabished mainly because of the harbor, a great 'short cut' for goods from the 48 lower to reach Anchorage. The town seems mainly to be about the harbour and freight services, with many of the workers living in the outskirt of the harbour area.

I see the statement made buy the channel, but I automatically do not think that 100% of the people living there, but interprent it as 'all lot' of the inhabitants living in that building. And I do not feel any bad towards the channel, there is competition about viewers, one have draw attention. some quick search online tell there is about 250 people in town, and about 200 in that one building.

In the summer possibilities for spending much more time outdoors, hiking, kayak.   91. Many old small houses where runied after the 1964 earthquake. The big building was still there and fine. More economical and practical make use of it when it's already there, less heating costs, then start building up new individual houses
