  1. One can wonder, but my guess is a place like Montana will never get overpopulated even though some areas will see quite a few newcommers. Overall the younger generations most likely will keep on gathering more in the bigger cities than moving out to rural areas

When it comes to like here, small town Montana, imo locals don't care too much about whatever money the newcomers got or not, but feel frustration about the sharply rising property costs that comes along with new people moving in. On the other hand it can give opportunities like more business

  4. Nothing lasts forever. Natives vs cowboys/europeans, it was bound to happen, sooner or later, we can like it or not. Larger groups of people pushing smaller groups of people aside, part of life on Earth. If not Pres Jackson, someone else. Millions of people from a over-populated Europe pushing on, vs a 'handfull' of natives sitting on millions of acres of land.

Well other people came across the ocean later on and said the same. The first group of people had 20.000 years to build up a strong nation and defence to protect what the land they claimed. There is a demand from out of state people wanting to move to the country side. And there are younger generation locals that wish for a more normal level income than most properties can give concerning running them the traditional way. But naturally sometimes families are more or less 'tricked' or forced to sell against their will, for different reasons. State regulation allows it to happen to a large degree.   22. Nothing lasts forever. Natives got to roam a realtive enormous area just for themselves for thousands of years. It was just bound to happen sooner or later, no way around. Not a enjoyment seeing how it went, but just more and more people made the choice to get out of crowded Europe. Groups of people have pushed away other groups of people through all human history, survival of the fitest. Shit happens, a new reality comes around, be stuck in the past and get nothing out of present life, or adapt to the new reality.

A part of the story and reason much land is sold out of the families is young generations not quite that eager to be ranchers/farmers anymore, putting $240 into raising a calf, selling it for $250, and so on. Many properites made a okay livng to a family back in the days, but might not today be big enough. Not much lasts forever. Times changes. Sadly for many familiy ranches among else

Used to be a big thing in many regions to own ranches/farms, for generations. These days it's less economical attractive compared to other options if it's not a well above average sized property. I'm myself in the postion to inherit a smaller farm property. Not in Montana or any high dollar location. Used to be a okay outcome for some generations. But today, no way I could live of it. Not more than for hobby use, chop some firewood.but I don't know Montana, so I end my comments now. Good luck if you're trying to make a difference and maybe solve issues, not just complaining in general

Possible better with a local developer, that really knows the place and culture, than someone sitting in a city far away that got no feelings for the place. Possible this guy is the 'less of evils'.

  36. It a similar situation many places. It's not illegal to move from one location and settle down somewhere else in the country. 'Freedom of movement'. In general; bunch of rich folks moving in, why not see it as a new business opportunity, make the best of it, put the negative thinking aside. Some locals can, some can't.

  39. Maybe part of the story is younger generations not that eager anymore being ranchers/farmers, maybe wanting more than just breaking even in many cases, wanting 3 weeks of holiday in the summer and so on

  43. Different tribes of natives fought about these areas for centuries, taking it from eachother now and then. Things were not all 'peace and quiet' before any europeans was around, as some might think. 'Their land'. The natives just moved in and claimed some land. You don't deserve the claimed land if you can't protect it. It's just human history and life on earth, taking land from eachother all the time. Nothing last forever.
