Think of buying a 200 mill apartment, and then 10 years later sell if for 250 mill. I recommend NOBODY doing this. It's stupid.
3
Fish eaters all around the world. Loving Faroe Island caugh fish, that is
3
that would been indredible, if he could stop saying incredible. Incredible agreeing.
2
Norway is the world leader in putting electric vehicles on the highways, fueled by their hydro eletric and wind power plants.
2
Much, much, too small country and few inhabitants, railway would not get enough traffic to be profitable. Short distances, people like to drive to get all the way door to door in a short time. There are buses.
2
Faroe Island is formally connected to Denmark, but run as an independant country. That said, it is Norwegian companies that build subsea tunnels in Faroe island, as Norway have great knowledge of these kinds of projects
2
USD is the better known among an international audience
2
@MetaFootballTV Most got knowledge of USD and the relation to their local currency, so the knowledge is there
2
15 years downpayment is mentioned typically
2
apart from the country is gaining money cause of this new infrastructure system in the long run, you are correct. Time = money. Less travel time = more productive time = more money
2
Out of practical reasons. Tunnel dividing in 2 directions, going to 2 different towns, at different side of a fjord
2
@TheRedBaronHP 37 km of underwater tunnels one must say are some gigantic investments for about 6000 people) Nothing but amazing. But I belive the Faroe Island got it all calculated and are in control
2
They want to be able to drive quickly from their homes to the main island. 400K pile of cash under their beds will not be to any help. It's money from sale of fish that will pay for all the new tunnels and roads, no subsidizing from anyone @jess_riedel
1
They murder salmon, sheep, chickens, moose and mouse. Stay. away.
1
No
1
Sell enough fish over the next 15 years to pay down loan for the tunnels. Which no problem. Lot's of fish
1
I've done so to, visiting many small villages) I love touring faroe Island with the Islands top artis, Eivor, singing in in the background, really ads to my experiene. Hope to visit one day
1
It's always great sitting in front of a keybord, telling people on the other side of the world what is best too them. Thanks.
1
But is the roundabout place directly under the sea? Hardly not many of them, if any? Karmøy tunnel got one under sealevel, but located under mainland or large island
1
Fish
1
or Democrat filibuster. The whole bunch is largely kids fighting in their sandbox.
1
Such big highway projects are like 70-80% paid for by the users, tollroads. In general almost all income from oil the last 30 years the government have put in a wealth fund, currently owning 1.5% of all puplic traded companies in the world. They'll do alright. 5 million people.
1
The long crossing south of Bergen, Hordfast, will likely not be a submerged floating tunnel, but a floating bridge. A study report for a floating bridge is expected finished in 2024
1
@Gazer75 A submerged floating tunnel, or pipe if you wish, has been evaluated for Hordfast, as shown in the video. A traditional tunnel under the sea bottom is something else, it's not mentioned in this video.
1
Maintenance and longlivity is all parts of the big calulations. They look at how much will this cost over the next 50 years vs how much will the society save in transport time over the same period. To the business life time=money. That is both transportation of goods and workers. The government pay a part of such projects, but 70%+ is paid by the users of the highway, toll roads.
1
As we all know, it's toll roads, mostly will be paid by the users..and in the long run save money for the local cities (transportation time is money) On the other hand, too people just travel there now and then, with no big rush, it all seems a waste
1
To earn more moeny than spent on the tunnel. It's just business. Saved transport time = saved money. Saved Money = earned money. Stupid.
1
Time is money to the businesses. There are calcualtions less transport time for goods and people, menas more money made. On the other hand, as a tourist or other traveller just visiting now and then, time is not so much of importance.
1
Inlet/outlets are tens of meters above sea level. There are pumping stations at the bottom of the tunnels, in general, to handle water coming through the ground
1
How will it improve your life if some thiny island community far away you hardly know where is stop hunting a few hundred of the 100.000 whales surrending them and rather let them die and disapear into the ocean. Zero.
1
How are things? More people, and companies, settle in smaller towns and islands due to better roads these days?
1
Millions of people around the world have fish several days aweek. Faroes Island supply fish to the world. Lot's of fish.
1
Just to inform, this is not southern California. It's Norway. Not near any earthquake zone. Please do your research before making statements.
1
Yeah, $10 pass when having a annual subscription, which nearly most people will have
1
Lol...'funded by NATO'...So you are a comedian, or you just have absolutely no clue what you are talking about
1
Because they like to and can.
1
a railroad would been too expencive to operate with the low population, spread on different islands and small towns. There are quite many buses, but still that do not suit all people on a regular basis regarding where the buses travels and the time involved.
1
Comparing the tax rate like that is fun, but does really not give much meaning) Free health care, free higher education, and more, is included in the Faroe Island tax rate
1
Fish buyers around the world are paying. Not Denmark or the EU. The big picture; less dead time sitting in cars, more time out fishing giving more export income. It all ads up, minutes and hours saved, every day, for decades to come
1
@TheRedBaronHP Not all countries got a costline)
1
Issues with getting too steep grades. Longer total length, long curved tunnels in order to stay under a certain grade. Higher costs. If that island was supposed to have road connection in the frst place, it would been different.
1
They just don't care about fancy sports arenas, opera houses, they care first of all about getting quickly with car around the islands. Infrastructure is highly important, these tunnels ads value to the country in the long run
1
2 tunnels, more like 400 mill in total, not 500. 300 vehicles is for the southern tunnel to be finished in 2023. The tunnel with the roundabout is in operation, got 4500-5000 vehicles a day. 15 years down payment. Anyway, a big big investment for tat small country. But the government are quite frugal in general, no big fancy opera houses, sports stadiums and such, it's on infrastructure they but a most of their investment
1
Coming from a person thinking every morning, going from the bed to the bathroom 'something will go horrible wrong. I'll better stay in bed' Alright, thanks for your input, 'Optimistic Joe':) Sometimes one have to take chances in life.
1
One aim for max 5% incline/decline on such main roads. It happens stretches of underwater tunnells is up to 7-8%, but they try to avoid if not a big cost factor involved
1
They usual do actually, no problem. But they usually do not make up for the emissions let out to manufacture and put them up, but that's another issue, and possible what you have heard. Of course there can be cases where they do not make enuogh money initially, but they are needed for 'no emmission power' in an area, and the society just have to take the extra cost
1
The project is financed mostly by loans from different european banks, and a smaller amount from the Faroe Island government
1
From banks and other sources of money. But they end up needing to deliver the money back, pluss interests, during the 15 years after they steal them.
1
The whole Earth and life going on there is a bait for a big metor to hit it, and everybody dies. But so far so good. Disasters happens now and then, but in between, enjoy life, day by day, not worry about disasters
1
The drivers using the tunnel system pays it down over a period of about 15 years. Saves much travel time for both private and companies, which is a big plus to the overall economy in the long run.
