  1. Putin do not wish any escalating war, he want an end to the unrest in eastern Ukraine, right up on his border that has been going on for 8 years. Ukraine, Nato, EU, US, all crying out loud now, but they were not able to stop it in all those years, now Putin had enough and will fix it himself. Those eastern regions were already gone forever after 2014, they were majorly ethnical russians and had no wish to join the 'New Ukraine'. Had the Ukraine leadersip been more wise they could have made a deal years ago, and saved thousands of lives
